With E3 2017 finally over, here's my annual review for the show:

EA started off the show with their press conference. They showed the classic EA sports games, plus a look at Star Wars Battlefront 2 and a new IP called Anthem. Other than Battlefront 2 and Anthem, however, nothing really stood out to me from EA's press conference.

Microsoft's press conference was next, and fared a bit better. They showed off their new system, Project Scorpio, now known as the Xbox One X. Despite being reputed as the most powerful console on the market with next-gen tech, it is still part of the current console generation as part of the Xbox One console family. Unfortunately, at $500, I don't see any reason to buy one and replace the Xbox One I currently have, especially if you can play the same games on either system. Some interesting games were shown, but nothing really stood out, except for Rare's upcoming game "Sea of Thieves". Not even a teaser for Halo 6 was shown. However, Microsoft's announcement that cross-platform gameplay was coming to Minecraft and backwards compatibility with the original Xbox library were welcome announcements.

Bethesda had their press conference next, at 11:00 p.m. Central Time. As if that wasn't bad enough, nothing really new was shown during their presser, except for a new Wolfenstein. Nothing really excited me, except for Skyrim on Switch, but even then, very little about the game was revealed, except for Amiibo support. We got no word on whether it was the Special Edition of the game or a port of the original. And we didn't get any info on whether or not it supported user mods. In all, I think Bethesda had the worst conference of the show.

Ubisoft came next, and they came out swinging. They showed off some really neat games, starting with a collaboration with Nintendo by showing off a Mario/Rabbids crossover game. We got to see a trailer for a new Assassin's Creed game, and a pirate game that looks really interesting. And their trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2 was hilarious. In all, I think they had a really good presser this year, although I missed seeing Aisha Tyler hosting the event.

Sony was next, and they had a pretty decent press conference as well. They announced an expansion for Horizon: Zero Dawn and announced a new Uncharted game. They also showed some of their VR-compatible games. However, there were some extended trailers and gameplay demos that really bogged down the presser and made things drag a bit. However, given that they had games that I was actually looking forward to, this can be excused somewhat.

Finally, Nintendo had their press event, and despite only being 25 minutes long, they had a lot to show. They showed a bit of the Mario/Rabbids game, along with a new trailer for their mainline Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey, as well as a brief teaser for the much-requested Metroid Prime 4. During their Treehouse Live Presentation, they announced that a remake of Metroid II: The Return of Samus would be coming to the 3DS in a few months, and showed off some gameplay of it. They had a really good press conference and Treehouse Live livestreams this year, and IGN gave Super Mario Odyssey their Game of E3 award.

In all, this E3 was a mixed bag. There were some great games that were shown, but a lot of duds as well. So who won E3? This year, I'd have to say Nintendo, although Ubisoft came close. This is my official ranking for each company's showing at E3 this year:

1. Nintendo
2. Ubisoft
3. Sony
4. Microsoft
5. EA
6. Bethesda

Hopefully next year's E3 will show more exciting gaming news. Until then, game on my friends.  =)
